Tips for Planning Your Honeymoon

If you feel some anxiety about planning your honeymoon, you're not alone. A honeymoon is that special vacation that gets you and your new spouse off to a lifetime of love and happiness together. To make sure your honeymoon experience is as enjoyable and as hassle-free as possible, we highly recommend browsing through the following websites for some excellent tips:
  • Start early. "Start honeymoon planning when you set your Wedding date. Many of the most romantic resorts are fully booked far in advance. A deposit will hold your dream honeymoon reservation." If this piece of advice doesn't apply to you any more, don't worry! You'll still have many amazing travel arrangements to choose from. (read more at HoneymoonUnderTheSun.com)

  • Tout your status. "When making reservations for your honeymoon, let your hotel, resort or cruise line know that you are 'newlyweds'. You'll likely receive lots of special treatment like free champagne, breakfast in bed, a 'goodie basket' or even the honeymoon suite!" (read more at USABride.com)

  • Learn something new. "You might like to combine your honeymoon with a golf, ski or sailing school or a tennis camp to learn a sport that you can enjoy together for the rest of your lives." (read more at Honeymoons.com)

  • Don't overpack. "Most people do not use ½ of what they pack and end up over-packing. Lugging around a huge suitcase is not romantic and does not allow you to enjoy your trip to its fullest. Choose clothes you can mix and match. No one is going to know (nor care) if you've worn the same outfit twice in one week! No matter where you're going or what climate, always make sure you pack one outfit that can be dressed up and a bathing suit (yes, even if you're going to the North Pole)." • Enjoy getting there, too. "Avoid making reservations for an early departure the morning after your wedding. If you're planning an evening reception, you can be sure you're not going to bed early on your wedding night. A later flight or train reservation may save you from walking bleary-eyed through the airport or the railway station." (read more at TravelMasti.com)

  • Don't put all your eggs in one basket. "Always put some of her clothes in his bag, and put some of his clothes in her bag, just as a precaution. Never pack valuables such as jewlery and cameras. Pack a carry on bag with valuables, prescriptions, suntan lotion,, swimwear, travel documents, and sunglasses, just in case you have to wait for your room." (read more at Honeymoons Inc.)

  • Plan ahead in case of loss or theft. "Before you go, make a copy of the opening page of your passport and other important travel documents and keep them separate from the actual documents when you travel. Then you won't panic if those documents are lost or stolen." (read more at Pioneer Thinking)

  • Avoid tummy aches with some simple precautions. "Be aware of local water and always drink bottled water with a sealed cap. All fruit and vegetables should be washed and foods cooked thoroughly and served piping hot. If you're worried that the local water may be contaminated, then watch out for ice cubes and washed salads too. Try to stick to fruit you peel and remember always to wash your hands." • If you're the romantic type, be creative. Said a bride, "For our honeymoon, I bought several gifts to give my husband, one for each day of our honeymoon. I can't remember all of them, but they were all wrapped and included small things such as neckband extenders for his dress shirts, a nicer gift of a watch (for the first day), and a very special gift for the last day. For his last gift I gave him a coffee mug with a picture of me in my wedding dress. I had it put on at one of those places in the mall. On the other side of the mug I had them put our wedding date and a sentiment." (read more at Honeymoon Ideas)

  • Never too much romance... "Write notes on Post-it notes and stick them around." (read more at Island Cruises and Travel)
